Descripción All the activities carried out by man on Earth, indiscriminately require the existence of water. However, the increase and the habits of water consumption leave in its path a water footprint, to some extent unsustainable. The water footprint will help measure the total volume of fresh water involved in activities to produce goods and services. The evaluation of the water footprint will allow the analysis between the relationship of the activities of the consumers that are supplied with drinking water and the National Aqueduct and Sewer Institute (IDAAN) during the year 2020. Thus, this study aims to show the consumption patterns of water resources to improve the levels of sustainability of natural resources. Dr. Arjen Hoekstra methodology was used, and adapted to our environment from a geographically defined area in the village of Chilibre; area with the highest population growth in the district of Panama. Through the water footprint indicator, we can observe the pressure exerted by man in his activities where water is involved. This work seeks to reflect on consumption models and guide the population towards a sustainable water culture
Descripción Todas las actividades que realiza el hombre en la Tierra indistintamente requieren de la existencia de agua. Sin embargo, el incremento y los hábitos de consumo de agua dejan en su recorrido una huella hídrica, relativamente insostenible. La huella hídrica ayudará a medir el volumen total de agua dulce involucrada en las actividades para producir los bienes y servicios. La evaluación de la huella hídrica permitirá analizar la relación de las actividades de los clientes que se abastecen de agua potable del Instituto de Acueductos y Alcantarillados Nacionales (IDAAN) durante el año 2020. Este estudio tiene como objetivo mostrar los patrones de consumo de los recursos hídricos, para mejorar los niveles de sostenibilidad de los recursos naturales. Se empleó la metodología propuesta por el Dr. Arjen Hoekstra adaptada a nuestro medio de un área geográficamente definida en el corregimiento de Chilibre; zona de mayor crecimiento poblacional en el distrito de Panamá. A través del indicador de la huella hídrica podremos observar la presión que ejerce el hombre en sus actividades donde el agua está involucrada. Se busca reflexionar los modelos de consumo y encaminar a la población hacia una cultura del agua sostenible.
