Descripción The Isla Galeta PPIG Protected Landscape, located in the province of Colón, Panama, houses a high diversity of plants and animals of interest for conservation, However, it is receiving anthropogenic pressures such as the presence of container ports and the expansion of residential projects in the buffer zone. Herpetofauna in this Protected Area has been partially studied and there is no updated inventory of amphibian species. In order to update the lists of amphibians and reptiles in this area, the richness, abundance and conservation status of these groups was determined. For the recording of species, we used the method of searching for transects, close to bodies of water, removing litter, fallen pieces and leaves of the plants. The species accumulation curve was used to assess the degree of confidence in the inventory. It registered 696 individuals and a wealth of 36 species, belonging to 12 species of amphibians and 24 species of reptiles. The study contributes with the knowledge of herpetofaunistic diversity of the province of Colón that can be useful in the Protected Areas Management Plans and the management of forest fragments in urban areas.
Descripción El Paisaje Protegido Isla Galeta PPIG, localizado en la provincia de Colón, Panamá, alberga una alta diversidad de plantas y animales de interés para la conservación, sin embargo, está recibiendo presiones antropogénicas como la presencia de puertos de contenedores y la expansión de proyectos residenciales en la zona de amortiguamiento. La herpetofauna en esta área Protegida ha sido estudiada parcialmente y no existe un inventario actualizado de las especies de anfibios y reptiles. Con el objetivo de actualizar los listados de anfibios y reptiles en esta área, se determinó la riqueza, abundancia y el estado de conservación de estos grupos. Se realizaron 9 giras entre los meses de octubre y diciembre del 2020. Para el registro de especies se utilizó el método de búsqueda por transectos, cercanos a cuerpos de agua, removiendo hojarasca, trocos caídos y hojas de las plantas. Se utilizó la curva de acumulación de especies para evaluar el grado de confianza del inventario. Se registro 696 individuos y una riqueza de 36 especies, pertenecientes a 12 especies de anfibios y 24 especies de reptiles. El estudio contribuye con el conocimiento de la diversidad herpetofaunistica de la provincia de Colón que puede ser útil para la actualización de Planes de Manejo de Áreas Protegidas y la gestión de fragmentos de bosques en zonas urbanas.
