Descripción Over the years, many buildings are adapted and their original facades are only known by studying their history or evolution through images. Building renovations often prioritize their new needs and treatments are carried out to adjust to them to the detriment of other aspects such as natural lighting. In the Octavio Méndez Pereira Campus of the University of Panama (UP), there are many buildings that have undergone countless reforms. In this case, the present work focuses on observing the evolution of the reforms of the Faculty of Nursing of the UP, and evaluating its performance in terms of natural lighting. Three classrooms (room 1, 2 and 7) were chosen to measure the levels of internal natural lighting (lux) with three EXTECH SDL400 luxometers. During the period of the internal measurements, the external illumination was in a range between 13,380lux and 27,700lux. The highest level of internal natural light was observed in room 1 with an average of 164lux and the lowest levels were found in room 7, with an average of only 17 lux for the entire space; both below the lighting levels required for this type of environment.
Descripción Con el pasar de los años, muchos edificios se van adecuando y sus fachadas originales sólo se conocen al estudiar su historia o evolución por medio de imágenes. Las reformas a edificios muchas veces priorizan sus nuevas necesidades y se realizan tratamientos para ajustarse a ellas en detrimento de otros aspectos como la iluminación natural. En el Campus Octavio Méndez Pereira de la Universidad de Panamá (UP), existen muchos edificios que han pasado por innúmeras reformas. En este caso, el presente trabajo se enfoca en observar la evolución de las reformas de la Facultad de Enfermería de la UP, y evaluar su desempeño en términos de iluminación natural. Se escogieron tres salones de clase (salón 1, 2 y 7) para realizar mediciones de los niveles de iluminación natural interna (lux) con tres luxómetros EXTECH SDL400. Durante el periodo de las mediciones internas, la iluminación exterior estuvo en un rango entre 13,380lux y 27,700lux. El nivel más alto de luz natural interna se observó en el salón 1 con un promedio de 164lux y los menores niveles se encontraron en el salón 7, con un promedio de todo el espacio de tan sólo 17lux; ambos por debajo de los niveles de iluminación requeridos para este tipo de ambientes.
