VARIATION BETWEEN AND WITHIN BREEDS IN DONORS HEIFERS OF OOCYTES COLLECTED BY TRANSVAGINAL OVUM PICK-UP

Descripción This research was aimed to evaluate the individual variation among oocyte donors, collected by Transvaginal Ovum Pick-Up (OPU). The variables evaluated were the total number of collected oocytes and the amount of viables for In Vitro Embryo Production (IVEP). Eight Gyr heifers and eight Fleckvieh heifers were used in the study. Environmental conditions were similar within breed and varied between breed. Data were analyzed using a Randomized Block Design and Duncan's test was employed to compare means between treatments. No statistical differences (P>0.05) were found in the number of total collected oocytes between females Gyr (9.81 SE 1.04) and Fleckvieh (9.00 SE 1.04). No differences were found (P>0.05) in terms of number of viable oocytes (Gyr: 5.94 SE 0.76 vs Fleckvieh: 6.63 SE 0.76). Significant statistically individual variation (P<0.05) was found within the two evaluated breeds, both for total number of oocytes and viable ones. However, the number of viable collected oocytes was the variable with the highest percentage of individual variation. It is concluded that the superiority shown in multiple investigations by Bos indicus animals such as those of the Gyr breed over Bos taurus animals such as those of the Fleckvieh breed, in terms of the number of oocytes collected by OPU, can be altered by environmental conditions. There is individual variation for the total number of oocytes collected by OPU and viable ones selected for IVEP, obtained from donors with similar conditions of breed, age, weight, biological stage, body condition, reproductive status and environment.
 
Descripción Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar la variación interracial e individual entre donantes de ovocitos recolectados por Aspiración Folicular Transvaginal (AFT). Las variables evaluadas fueron número total de ovocitos recuperados y número de ovocitos viables para Producción In Vitro de Embriones (PIVE). Se emplearon ocho novillas de la raza Gyr y ocho novillas de la raza Fleckvieh. Las condiciones ambientales fueron similares dentro de raza y variadas entre raza. Los datos fueron analizados mediante un Diseño de Bloques Aleatorizado. Se empleó el test de Duncan para realizar las comparaciones de medias entre los tratamientos. No se encontró diferencias estadísticas significativas (P>0.05) para en el número de ovocitos totales recolectados entre las hembras Gyr (9.81 EE 1.04) y Fleckvieh (9.00 EE 1.04). Tampoco se encontró diferencias (P>0.05) en cuanto al número de ovocitos viables (Gyr: 5.94 EE 0.76 vs Fleckvieh: 6.63 EE 0.76). Se encontró variación individual estadísticamente significativa (P<0.05) dentro de las dos razas evaluadas, tanto para total de ovocitos como para el número de ovocitos viables recolectados. El número de ovocitos viables recolectados fue la variable con el mayor porcentaje de variación individual. Se concluye que la superioridad demostrada en múltiples investigaciones por animales Bos Indicus como los de raza Gyr sobre animales Bos Taurus como los de raza Fleckvieh, en cuanto al número de ovocitos recolectados por AFT, puede ser alterada por las condiciones ambientales. Existe variación individual para el número total de ovocitos recolectados y número de ovocitos viables para PIVE obtenidos por AFT entre individuos con condiciones similares de raza, edad, peso, etapa biológica, condición corporal, estatus reproductivo y ambiente.
