Descripción The fifth technological revolution is taking place in the second decade of the 21st century. These changes, which are beyond the technological field, have been occurring periodically since at least the 18th century, when the so-called industrial revolution triggered several waves of radical changes every fifty years or so, in the midst of global capitalism, replacing traditional production techniques, development methods, work methods, and resources, as well as expanding the dominance of nature for the sake of greater productivity. The change in techno-productive patterns is always associated with problems in the established world: wars, conflicts, chaos, and uncertainty in all aspects, with financial instability and armed disputes between great nations being one of its main characteristics. Since the 20th century, these problems have been further intensified by the environmental destruction that threatens life on the planet. By the main ideas of the researcher Carlota Pérez and other scholars, this article aims to organize concepts and arguments of the new technological revolution that is radically changing the world, the ways of producing, working, studying, and life, in the midst of uncertainties such as the financial crises, the world recession, a health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the threat of a new world war.
Descripción La quinta revolución tecnológica se está estableciendo definitivamente en esta segunda década del siglo XXI. Estos conjuntos de cambios, que desbordan la dimensión exclusivamente tecnológica, vienen dándose cíclicamente desde por lo menos el siglo XVIII, cuando la denominada revolución industrial inició varias olas de profundos cambios cada cincuenta aproximadamente, en el marco del capitalismo mundial, sustituyendo las técnicas
de producción, formas de desarrollo, tipos de trabajo, insumos principales y expandiendo el dominio sobre la naturaleza en aras de una mayor productividad. Objetivo: este artículo tiene como objetivo sistematizar conceptos y razonamientos para hacer un estado de arte y de la cuestión acerca de la nueva revolución tecnológica que está cambiando radicalmente el mundo, las formas de producir, trabajar, estudiar y vivir, en medio de grandes incertidumbres. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica y documental a partir de la obra de Carlota Pérez y otros estudiosos que desarrollan su línea, así como sus antecedentes en teóricos de la economía como Marx y Schumpeter. El cambio de los patrones tecnoproductivos se acompaña siempre de grandes desórdenes del mundo establecido, siendo una de sus manifestaciones la inestabilidad financiera y los conflictos armados entre grandes potencias. Desde el siglo XX, a estos desórdenes se le agrega el grave deterioro ambiental que pone en riesgo la vida sobre el planeta, así como las crisis financieras, la anunciada recesión mundial, la emergencia sanitaria por la pandemia COVID 19 y la amenaza de una nueva guerra mundial.
