Descripción The commitment, engagement or student involvement is the degree of effort, interest, motivation that each student invests to achieve academic goals; It is characterized by a positive attitude towards academics: career, teachers, classmates, activities, institution. This commitment is one of the predictors of academic dropout. For this research, academic activities refer to the course and its contents, didactic strategies, evaluation methods, available resources, the perception of the course by students about its relevance to the career, expectations about their performance, level of satisfaction with the race. The objective of this research is to determine the effect of academic activities on student engagement in the Psychology Degree at the University of Panama. An initial (qualitative) exploratory phase will be carried out with in-depth interviews with students of different levels/shifts of the career and teachers. Then, in the quantitative phase, the instruments specially designed to measure the main constructs will be designed and standardized tests will be used. The sample will be approximately 150 students (approximate error of 7%, confidence level of 95%), representative by shift and level. The application of instruments will be in online platforms, after explanation and signing of the informed consent of the participants. Participation will be voluntary, respecting good practices and ethical principles. A model of linear structural equations will be applied with the XLSTAT program to understand relationships in different pathways and effects on student engagement; Contrast tests will also be applied between the groups identified with high and low level of commitment and if there are significant statistical differences between their results. At the conclusion of this research, it is expected to contribute with key elements of academic activities that favor student engagement, which will impact academic success in the future.
Descripción El compromiso, enganche o implicación estudiantil es el grado de esfuerzo, interés y motivación que cada estudiante invierte para el logro de metas académicas. Un alto nivel de enganche se caracteriza por una actitud positiva hacia lo académico: carrera, docentes, compañeros, actividades, institución. Este compromiso es uno de los predictores del abandono académico y del éxito académico. Para esta investigación el contexto académico se refiere a el curso y sus contenidos, estrategias didácticas, métodos de evaluación, recursos disponibles, la percepción del curso por parte de los estudiantes sobre su pertinencia con la carrera, expectativas sobre su desempeño, nivel de satisfacción con la carrera. El objetivo de esta investigación, de la cual este reporte es un avance, es determinar el efecto del contexto académico sobre el compromiso estudiantil en la Lic. en Psicología de la Universidad de Panamá. Se realizará una fase exploratoria inicial (cualitativa) con entrevistas a profundidad con estudiantes de distintos niveles/turnos de la carrera y docentes diferentes cursos de esta carrera. Luego se aplicará una fase cuantitativa: se diseñarán los instrumentos especialmente diseñados para medir los principales constructos y se utilizarán pruebas estandarizadas. La muestra será de aproximadamente 150 estudiantes de una población de aproximadamente 654 (error aproximado del 7%, nivel de confianza del 95%) representativa por turno y nivel. La aplicación de los instrumentos será en plataformas en línea, previa explicación y firma de consentimiento informado de los participantes. La participación será voluntaria, respetando las buenas prácticas y principios éticos. Se aplicará un modelo de ecuaciones lineales estructurales con el programa XLSTAT para entender relaciones en diferentes vías y efectos sobre el compromiso estudiantil; también se aplicarán pruebas de contraste entre los grupos identificados con alto y bajo nivel de compromiso y si existen diferencias estadísticas significativas entre sus resultados. Al concluir esta investigación se espera aportar con elementos claves del contexto académico que favorece el compromiso estudiantil lo que a futuro impactará el éxito académico y la permanencia y culminación de sus estudios.
