Descripción Planning and land use planning in Panama have evolved significantly in recent decades, from the creation of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Policy (MIPPE) in the 1960s to the creation of Law 61 of October 23, 2009 Official Gazette Nº26395 of October 23, 2009, which reorganizes the Ministry of Housing and establishes the Vice Ministry of Land Use Planning. However, urban planning for sustainable tourism development in Chitre puts the sustainability of the destination and the local quality of life at risk. The objective of this mixed study was to evaluate urban planning for sustainable tourism development in Chitre. The qualitative phase consisted of a review of urban-tourism regulations and norms, while the quantitative phase was based on 266 random digital surveys applied with ArcGIS Survey123. The results highlight that effective urban planning contributes to sustainable tourism and enriches the experience of citizens and visitors. To improve the results, it is suggested to consider changes in the factors that impact the perception of respondents, such as an alternative rating scale. Among the conclusions, the need to improve public transportation, foster a sense of belonging and connection with the environment, diversify the tourist offer, and consider public and private management to transform green spaces stand out. In general, this study has raised concerns that contribute to progress in the field of urban planning for sustainable tourism development in Chitre.
Descripción La planificación y el ordenamiento territorial en Panamá han evolucionado notablemente en las últimas décadas, desde la creación del Ministerio de Planificación y Política Económica (MIPPE) en los 60 hasta la creación de la   Ley 61 de 23 de octubre de 2009 Gaceta Oficial Nº26395 de 23 de 0ctubre de 2009 que reorganiza el Ministerio de Vivienda y establece el Viceministerio de Ordenamiento Territorial. Sin embargo, la planificación urbana para el desarrollo turístico sostenible en Chitré pone en riesgo la sostenibilidad del destino y la calidad de vida local. El objetivo de este estudio mixto fue evaluar la planificación urbana para el desarrollo turístico sostenible en Chitré. La fase cualitativa consistió en revisar la normativa y reglamentación urbanística-turística, mientras que la fase cuantitativa se basó en 266 encuestas digitales aleatorias aplicadas con ArcGIS Survey123.Los resultados destacan que la planificación urbana efectiva contribuye al turismo sostenible y enriquece la experiencia de ciudadanos y visitantes. Para mejorar los resultados, se sugiere considerar cambios en los factores que impactan la percepción de los encuestados, como una escala de valoración alternativa. Entre las conclusiones sobresale la necesidad de mejorar el transporte público, fomentar el sentido de pertenencia y conexión con el entorno, diversificar la oferta turística, y considerar la gestión pública y privada para transformar los espacios verdes. En general, este estudio ha suscitado inquietudes que contribuyen al avance en el campo de la planificación urbana para el desarrollo turístico sostenible en Chitré.
