Descripción The research is based on the approaches of Maslow's Theory of Human Needs. The objective was to carry out the diagnosis of the human needs identified in the elderly at the Santa Luisa Homecare, in the province of Colón, and from there, provide a proposal for the improvement of the mental-emotional health of this population. A population of 117 older adults, distributed in three nursing homes, was found among the asylums of the Province of Colón. For this purpose, a first instrument was applied to the non-bedridden elderly population of the Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, where the sample was considered, composed of cognitively functional older adults, not bedridden from the nursing home. A fact that was of impact and that evidenced the emotional condition of the elderly of the Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, is that after the death of an elderly person there are several deaths, of other elderly adults in a short period of time. Information that was identified, as a result of the initial interview carried out with the person in charge of the Home. The research design used was quasi-experimental. The type of study was descriptive - explanatory, with data analysis. It should be noted, with respect to the diagnosis of the needs of the elderly at the Santa Luisa Homecare, that the need for security was not significantly covered for the population of older adults approached, where even when it was identified that 70% said they felt that they were safe in the Homecare, 40% reported feeling fear in that place. And likewise, where 50% indicated that they received a visit, 80% declared that they felt alone at Santa Luisa Homecare. Regarding the need for self-realization, it was interesting to find that 80% of the older adults approached, identified this need, from the achievement of doing something for the good of someone, and 70% responding to the same need, stated that they had some goal earring. 70% said they felt useful in the nursing home. The result of the diagnosis of the needs of the elderly, facilitated the contribution of a proposal aimed at comprehensive care and intervention for them, in order to improve the mental-emotional health of the elderly at the Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, in Colon province.
Descripción La investigación se sustenta en los planteamientos de la teoría de las necesidades humanas de Maslow. El objetivo fue realizar el diagnóstico de las necesidades humanas identificadas en los adultos mayores del Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, de la provincia de Colón, y a partir del mismo, aportar una propuesta para el mejoramiento de la salud mental - emocional, de esta población. Se encontró entre los asilos de la Provincia de Colón, una población de 117 adultos mayores, distribuidos en tres asilos. Se aplicó para los efectos, un primer instrumento a la población de adultos mayores no encamados del Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, donde fue considerada la muestra, compuesta por los adultos mayores cognitivamente funcionales, no encamados del asilo. Un dato que resultó de impacto y que evidenció la condición emocional de los adultos mayores del Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, es que a la muerte de un anciano le suceden varios decesos, de otros adultos mayores en un periodo corto de tiempo. Información que se identificó, como producto de la entrevista inicial realizada a la encargada y responsable del Hogar. El diseño de investigación utilizado fue cuasi experimental. El tipo de estudio fue descriptivo – explicativo, con el análisis de los datos. Cabe destacar, con respecto al diagnóstico de las necesidades de los adultos mayores del Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, que la necesidad de seguridad, no se reflejó significativamente cubierta para la población de adultos mayores abordada, donde aun cuando se identificó que un 70% manifestó sentirse seguro en el Asilo, 40% reportaron sentir miedo en dicho lugar. Y así mismo donde el 50% señaló recibir visita, 80% declaró sentirse solo en el Hogar Santa Luisa. Con respecto a la necesidad de autorrealización resultó interesante encontrar que el 80% de los adultos mayores abordados, identificaron dicha necesidad, desde el logro de hacer algo en bien de alguna persona, y un 70% respondiendo a la misma necesidad, manifestó tener alguna meta pendiente. El 70% manifestó sentirse útil en el asilo. El resultado del diagnóstico de las necesidades de los adultos mayores, facilitó el aporte de una propuesta dirigida a la atención e intervención integral a los mismos, en aras de mejorar la salud mental - emocional de los adultos mayores del Asilo Hogar Santa Luisa, en la provincia de Colón.
