Descripción The objective of the study was to evaluate the influence of F1 crossbreeding on productive performance and morphological characteristics in crosses of Pelibuey x Dorper (PD) and Pelibuey x Katahdin (PK). The Pelibuey breed was used as the maternal line and the Dorper and Katahdin breeds as the paternal lines. 20 male animals were used, 10 PD and 10 PK. The animals were managed in stable production systems. PD lambs had higher weight at the end of fattening, daily weight gain, carcass weight and carcass yield than PK lambs (p<0.05), however, there were no significant differences (p>0.05) in weight at birth and weaning between crosses. In relation to morphological variables, PD animals had greater head width, thoracic perimeter, chest width and rump compared to PK lambs (p<0.05). While PK lambs had greater withers height, rump height and body length in relation to PD (p<0.05). However, head length and shank perimeter did not show significant differences (p>0.05) between the crosses. The Brody and Von Bertalanffy models presented better fits to model the growth curve of the PD and PK lambs, with R2 ? 0.98. A high positive linear correlation was found between live weight and chest perimeter (r=0.98) in both crosses. In conclusion, F1 PD lambs present better productive performance and morphological characteristics appropriate to the biotype with aptitude for meat production.
Descripción El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la influencia del cruzamiento F1 sobre el desempeño productivo y características morfológicas en cruces de Pelibuey x Dorper (PD) y Pelibuey x Katahdin (PK). Se utilizó la raza Pelibuey como línea materna y las razas Dorper y Katahdin como líneas paternas. Se utilizaron 20 animales machos, 10 PD y 10 PK. Los animales fueron manejados en sistemas de producción estabulado. Los corderos PD presentaron mayor peso al final del engorde, ganancia diaria de peso, peso en canal y rendimiento de la canal en comparación a los corderos PK (p<0,05), sin embargo, no hubo diferencias significativas (p>0,05) en el peso al nacimiento y destete entre los cruzamientos. Con relación a las variables morfológicas, animales PD tuvieron mayor ancho de cabeza, perímetro toráxico, ancho de pecho y grupa en comparación a los corderos PK (p<0,05). Mientras que los corderos PK presentaron mayor alzada de cruz, alzada de grupa y longitud corporal con relación a PD (p<0,05). No obstante, la longitud de cabeza y perímetro de caña no mostraron diferencias significativas (p>0,05) entre los cruces. Los modelos Brody y Von Bertalanffy presentaron mejores ajustes para modelar la curva de crecimiento de los corderos PD y PK, con R2 ? 0,98. Se encontró correlación lineal positiva alta entre el peso vivo y perímetro toráxico (r=0,98) en ambos cruzamientos. En conclusión, los corderos F1 PD presentan mejor desempeño productivo y características morfológicas adecuadas al biotipo con aptitud para producción de carne.
