Descripción The article addresses the transition of Panama towards a sustainable model through the implementation of the circular economy. A literature review and critical analysis of selected articles were carried out, as well as consultation of government documents and plans related to sustainability and waste management in the country. The research reveals that the implementation of the circular economy in Panama is still in its early stages, but presents great potential to address the environmental and economic challenges of the country. Challenges such as lack of coordination and the need to improve infrastructure and technical capacity are identified. Collaboration between different sectors is proposed to achieve a successful transition. It is concluded that the circular economy can be a key tool in achieving a sustainable model, but strong commitment and collaboration from all sectors are required. Implementation of incentives, appropriate regulations, and promotion of research and development of sustainable technologies are recommended.
Descripción El artículo aborda la transición de Panamá hacia un modelo sostenible a través de la implementación de la economía circular. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica y un análisis crítico de los artículos seleccionados, así como la consulta de documentos y planes gubernamentales relacionados con la sostenibilidad y el manejo de residuos en el país. La investigación revela que la implementación de la economía circular en Panamá aún es incipiente, pero presenta un gran potencial para enfrentar los desafíos ambientales y económicos del país. Se identifican desafíos como la falta de coordinación y la necesidad de mejorar la infraestructura y la capacidad técnica. Se propone una colaboración entre los diferentes sectores para lograr una transición exitosa. Se concluye que la economía circular puede ser una herramienta clave para lograr un modelo sostenible, pero se requiere un fuerte compromiso y colaboración de todos los sectores. Se recomienda la implementación de incentivos, regulaciones adecuadas y la promoción de la investigación y el desarrollo de tecnologías sostenibles.
