Descripción The article focuses on the colloquial expressions that make up the speech of the inhabitants of the province of Los Santos in the Republic of Panama, a region that is characterized by its historical richness and unique cultural identity. Therefore, this study aims to explore the linguistic heritage of the santeños and how it is motivated by geographical, sociocultural, contextual and historical aspects. This research presents a non-experimental field design based on informal conversations, review of existing literature on the topic; as well as the interpretation of concepts and specific definitions related to linguistic variation. The findings indicate that linguistic variation in the province of Los Santos presents dynamic and diverse characteristics, motivated by internal factors of the systemic structure of the language as well as external factors, such as the geographical, sociocultural, historical and individual situation of its speakers. Regarding the linguistic variation in all the communities of the province of Los Santos, it is evident in aspects such as: vocabulary, intonation, timbre, accent, pronunciation and other fundamental characteristics. This variation infers information about the origin, geographical origin, roots and customs of the speakers, as well as their social position and educational level. Furthermore, the use of the term "linguistic variety" to refer to more specific communities of speakers and specific communicative acts is significantly highlighted.
Descripción El artículo se enfoca en las expresiones coloquiales que conforman el habla de los habitantes de la provincia de Los Santos en la República de Panamá, región que se caracteriza por su riqueza histórica e identidad cultural única. Por ende, este estudio se propone explorar el patrimonio lingüístico de los santeños y cómo este está motivado por aspectos geográficos, socioculturales, contextuales e históricos. Esta investigación presenta un diseño de campo no experimental basado en conversaciones informales, revisión de la literatura existente sobre el tema; así como, la interpretación de conceptos y definiciones concretas relacionadas con la variación lingüística. Los hallazgos indican que la variación lingüística en la provincia de Los Santos presenta características dinámicas y diversas, motivados por factores internos de la estructura sistémica de la lengua como por factores externos, como la situación geográfica, sociocultural, histórica e individual de sus hablantes. Con respecto a la variación lingüística en todas las comunidades de la provincia de Los Santos se evidencia en aspectos como: el vocabulario, la entonación, el timbre, el acento, la pronunciación y otras características fundamentales. Esta variación infiere información sobre la procedencia, el origen geográfico, las raíces y las costumbres de los hablantes, así como su posición social y nivel educativo. Además, se resalta de forma significativa la utilización del término "variedad lingüística" para referirse a comunidades de hablantes más específicas y a actos comunicativos concretos.
