Descripción This study has been approached from sociolinguistics, specifically, the lexicon available in students of the Spanish major at the University of Panama. This work has had the objective: to determine the sociocultural variables that influence the lexical production of these students.  In the analysis of the responses, the Dispolex program of the Pan-Hispanic Project created by López (1995) and directed by Professor Bartol (2006) was used. Such a program made it possible to measure in different lexical fields called centers of interest: animals, clothing and means of transportation, the percentage of appearance of the words, the cohesion index, etc. The sex and sociocultural variables were analyzed. The probabilistic sample was 30 students from the program: selected at random, 15 from the afternoon shift and 15 from the night shift. The results obtained showed clear sociocultural differences in the sample, in contrast to the sex variable. This evidence will allow us to address the problem of the lack of lexical availability in students in a didactic and timely manner.
Descripción En este estudio se ha abordado desde la sociolingüística, específicamente, el léxico disponible en estudiantes de la carrera de español de la Universidad de Panamá. Este trabajo ha tenido como objetivo: determinar las variables socioculturales que influyen en la producción lexical de estos estudiantes.  En el análisis de las respuestas se utilizó el programa Dispolex del Proyecto Panhispánico creado por López (1995) y dirigido por el profesor Bartol (2006). Tal programa permitió medir en diferentes campos léxicos llamados centros de interés: animales, ropa y medio de transporte, el porcentaje de aparición de los vocablos, el índice de cohesión, etc. Se analizaron las variables sexo y sociocultural. La muestra probabilística fue de 30 estudiantes de la Carrera: seleccionados al azar, 15 del turno vespertino y 15, nocturno. Los resultados obtenidos arrojaron claras diferencias socioculturales en la muestra, en contraposición con la variable sexo. Estas evidencias permitirán abordar la problemática de la carente disponibilidad léxica en los alumnos de manera didáctica y oportuna.
